asked the Secretary of State for Industry what companies are receiving continuing assistance from the NEB in the years 1976–77, 1977–78, 1978–79

Under direction from my right hon. Friend, under Section 3 of the Industry Act 1975, the NEB may provide companies with selective financial assistance in accordance with the Industry Act 1972. My right hon. Friend envisages giving one such direction in 1976–77, requiring the NEB to lend £30 million to British Leyland, in pursuance of his statement in the House on 21st July 1976.—[Vol. 915, c. 501–2]—In later years he may give further directions of a similar nature, but no annual amounts for such assistance have been determined.
