From the inception of the scheme in July 1973, 193 offers of assistance have been made on investment of £73.7 million, of which £56.3 million is for new plant and machinery and £17.4 million for new and modernised buildings. Assistance offered is £16.4 million of which £10.7 million had been paid out by 4th February 1977. In addition, grants of £1.9 million have been paid under the realisation part of the scheme as compensation for firms ceasing to trade or closing down production units. Total investment generated by the scheme is now expected to be nearly £75 million and total Government assistance will be about £17 million.
