§ Mr. Ron Lewis
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in view of the fact that the Chairman of the Supplementary Benefits Commission has failed to reply to letters of 20th July, 23rd August and 11th October from the hon. Member for Carlisle, despite also requests for replies by telephone, he will consider dismissing the Chairman and senior members of the staff on the grounds of inefficiency.
§ Mr. Ennals
No. But the Chairman of the Commission has asked me to repeat his apologies for what he regards as an inexcusable delay in replying to my hon. Friend's letters and to say that he has commissioned a complete review of the arrangements for handling his correspondence to prevent such delays occuring again.
