asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the functions of the Social Work Services Group within the Scottish Education Department.

Mr. McElhone

The Social Work Services Group, which comprises four administrative divisions and the Central Advisory Service, assists the Secretary of State in carrying out his functions under the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968. These functions include guidance to local authorities on the provision of social work services, making regulations under the Act, appointment of members of children's panels and financial assistance to voluntary organisations, List D Schools, research and training.
