HC Deb 03 February 1977 vol 925 cc285-6W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of Scottish seed potatoes submitted for certification in 1976 was rejected; and what were the main reasons for rejecting this proportion.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

Approximately 15 per cent. of the area of seed potato crops submitted for growing crop inspection was rejected in 1976. The main cause of failure was potato virus leaf roll either alone or in combination with other faults; the presence of groundkeepers veinal necrosis virus were other reasons for rejection.
