HC Deb 03 February 1977 vol 925 cc275-6W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in addition to publishing statistics of British construction work overseas, he will also seek to collect statistics of the value of commissions carried out overseas by British firms involved in the design and planning processes of construction; and whether he will institute discussions with the relevant professional bodies to this end.

Mr. Freeson

The overseas earnings of British consulting engineers, architects and surveyors remitted to the United Kingdom are already estimated annually after consultation with the principal professional bodies concerned and in 1975 these earnings amounted to £141 million. These estimates appear in "United Kingdom Balance of Payments" (HMSO).
