§ Mr. BennThe United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is planning a research programme to investigate the suitability of certain geological strata in Wales, England and Scotland for the disposal of radioactive waste. The formations to be considered include some mudstone and rock-salt deposits in the Cheshire-Welsh border area. Proposals actually to use geological strata for disposal would only be made after the fullest consideration of all the safety and environmental issues including wide consultations—and on the basis of a conclusion that it would be safe to do so.
