HC Deb 02 February 1977 vol 925 cc192-3W
Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the number of people unemployed, male and female, and as a percentage of the total work force, for Halesowen and Stourbridge as at the latest count.

Mr. Golding

At January 1977, 488 males and 150 females were registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Halesowen employment office. The figures for Stourbridge employment office area were 1,219 males and 395 females. Rates of unemployment are calculated for travel-to-work areas as a whole but not separately for their constituent parts. They are calculated by expressing the numbers unemployed as a percentage of total employees, including the unemployed. The rates for the Dudley travelto-work area, which includes Halesowen and Stourbridge together with Cradley Heath, Dudley and Tipton, were 5.0 per cent. for males and 2.4 per cent. for females.

All figures are provisional.
