HC Deb 16 December 1977 vol 941 cc533-4W
Mr. Carson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will make a statement about investigations in connection with Housing Executive contracts in West Belfast.

Mr. Mason

I am informed that the DPP, having considered all the evidence before him including the reports of police investigations, has decided not to direct prosecution in regard to the placing and control of these contracts. It is for the Housing Executive to consider, on the basis of the information available to it, whether any of its staff concerned with these contracts should be disciplined. The Executive's contract arrangements have been thoroughly reviewed and, where necessary, improved, and the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland now monitors and controls the work and expenditure more closely.
