HC Deb 15 December 1977 vol 941 c405W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has for changing the management of health services in the Wallasey constituency of the Wirral Area Health Authority.

Mr. Moyle

The Wirral Area Health Authority issued in February 1976 a consultative document which discussed various alternative patterns for the future management of the area, and concluded by giving the AHA's view that a single-district structure would be best on grounds of cost and management effectiveness. In the light of reaction to that document a further consultative document was issued in February 1977 setting out in more detail the AHA's proposals for merging the northern and southern health districts. Detailed consultations on particular aspects of the proposals are continuing, and, subject to the outcome of these, formal proposals will be put to the Mersey Regional Health Authority, and if the RHA approves, to my right hon. Friend for final decision.
