HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 c169W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he intended to take to tighten control over public expenditure and public liability, in the light of the Crown Agents' losses.

Mr. Joel Barnett

The Treasury, in consultation with the Civil Service Department, has already considered as a matter of urgency whether there are bodies which ought to be subject to tighter monitoring and controls by central government. Although this preliminary survey did not reveal any specific cases givingprima facie cause for concern, more detailed work is to be set in hand immediately in consultation with other Government Departments.
