The position carries a fee of £1,000 a year—which they do not all take—and involves chairing about four regular meetings a year and other work connected with the industries concerned. A number of industrialists whose companies belong to the CBI serve on economic development committees or sector working parties and may claim expenses. 169W They are doing important work in a voluntary capacity, for which, I am sure, the House is grateful.
