Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will list those members of the CBI who interviewed him on Thursday 1st December 1977; what matters were discussed; to what extent these included the implementation by CBI members at all times of the Government's various wage and salary restrictions so far as their own incomes are concerned; how many of those in attendance hold Government appointments; and what salary or expenses are payable in respect of these appointments.

Mr. Joel Barnett

The members of the CBI delegation which I received on 1st December were Lord Watkinson, Mr. Greenborough, Mr. Whittall, Mr. Methven, Sir Donald MacDougall, Mr. Dixon and Mr. Alexander. It is not my usual practice to publish details of private discussions of this sort. Lord Watkinson Mr. Greenborough and Mr. Methven are all members of the National Economic Development Council; they receive no salaries nor expenses in respect of these posts.
