HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 cc840-1W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the potential for hydro-produced electricity in Scotland over the next 10 years; and what major schemes are either in construction or under consideration at the present time.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

In 1976–77 conventional hydro-electric stations made up nearly 1,200MW of the Scottish electricity boards' total installed capacity of some 9,250MW. The boards do not propose to close any existing hydro-electric stations in the next 10 years, but they consider that in present circumstances the construction of new conventional hydroelectric schemes would be uneconomic. The North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board is, I am advised, considering the development of a site at Craigroyston on Loch Lomond as a pumped storage hydro-electric scheme.
