§ Mr. OrmeExpenditure on specific benefits payable to single parents in the year ended March 1977 was as follows: Widows' benefits, £168 million; supplementary benefit, £340 million; child interim benefit, £18 million. No statistics are available which distinguish between those living alone and those parents who may be living as members of other households—for example, a daughter with child continuing to live in her parents' home.
