§ Mrs. Wiseasked the Secretary of State for Transport how many hazardous substances, involving special safety information and precautions, are transported by road; and what is the average number of journeys per year or per month.
§ Mr. HoramAbout 400 hazardous chemicals are subject to legislation requiring special safety information and precautions when transported by road.
I am not in a position to provide up-to-date information on the average number of journeys involving the carriage of hazardous chemicals, but on the basis of a survey undertaken a few years ago it is estimated that there are approximately 3 million tanker journeys per year on the roads in Great Britain.
