Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of persons who have been employed under the job creation scheme are registered disabled persons.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that about 3 per cent. of people employed under the job creation programme are registered as disabled. In addition, the programme is providing jobs for a number of unregistered handicapped people.

Five individuals who are currently serving sentences in Northern Ireland prisons for scheduled offences under the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1973 were serving members of Her Majesty's Forces at the time of their conviction.
