HC Deb 29 April 1977 vol 930 c449W
Mr. Ioan Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether he has any plans for further changes in food subsidies.

Mr. Hattersley

As part of the planned rundown of the food subsidy programme for 1977–78 I have decided to end the household flour subsidy with effect from 1st May. The subsidy is at present worth 1p per 1b. at the retail level and costs about £8 million a year. Decisions on the ending of the remaining subsidies in milk, cheese, and bread have yet to be taken and will be announced nearer the time.
