asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what was the total payment made in 1974–75 and 1975–76 to families under Section 12 of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968;

(2) what was the average amount paid out per family under Section 12 of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968.

In 1974 the total amount paid by local authorities was £384,540, and the average payment was £14.73. Later figures are not available. Further details about financial assistance under Section 12 of the 1968 Act are contained in "Scottish Social Work Statistics 1974".
