HC Deb 06 April 1977 vol 929 cc568-9W
Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he hopes to announce the next social security uprating.

Mr. Ennals

I have now conducted a review of the rates of the principal national insurance benefits, such as Section 125 of the Social Security Act 1975 requires me to carry out before the end of the 1976–77 tax year. Consequent upon that, I am formulating proposals for a general uprating of benefits to take effect in mid-November. I have also reviewed the level of mobility allowance, in accordance with Section 37A of the Act, and determined that this should be included in the uprating. Details of the proposed new rates of benefit will be brought before the House in due course.
