HC Deb 05 April 1977 vol 929 c446W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what experiments have recently been conducted in Wales to determine new means of rural transport; and what has been the outcome of such investigations.

Mr. Barry Jones

A number of experimental public transport schemes are currently being conducted by county councils in Wales in co-operation with bus operators and voluntary bodies.

The Government's own experimental project in Dinefwr, one of four in Great Britain, will introduce a range of services early this summer, including a post bus, a voluntary emergency car scheme, a community car service and the extended use of school buses to carry fare-paying passengers. We hope that it may also be possible to investigate the effects of a controlled relaxation of the bus licensing laws.
