HC Deb 04 April 1977 vol 929 cc383-4W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what plans he has for employment prospects for those persons in Carlisle now signing the unemployment register; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Golding

The services of the Carlisle jobcentre, which has already placed over 1,000 workers in jobs this year, are available to help all persons seeking employment. In addition, the special measures, introduced by the Government to alleviate the worst effects of unemployment which have so far benefited nearly 1,100 workers in Carlisle, are also available.

Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he can indicate the total benefit to Carlisle of the operation of the temporary employment subsidy scheme.

Mr. Golding

As at 25th March, 531 jobs were being supported in Carlisle with the assistance of the temporary employment subsidy. Applications covering an additional 80 jobs were under consideration.

Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give details of the Job Creation Programme as applied in Carlisle.

Mr. Golding

I will reply to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
