§ Mr. Roseasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in the light of the indictment brought by a grand jury in the United States of America of kidnapping by brainwashing and of the evidence submitted to Senator Dole's 139W committee of inquiry, he will study the widespread use of sophisticated brainwashing techniques by pseudo-religious cults and their medical implications in the United Kingdom.

Friend is referring to the prosecution of two members of the New York "Hari Krishna" temple and to the United States Congressional enquiry into the activities of the Unification Church. My right hon. Friend the Home Secretary is awaiting information from the USA about the enquiry, and we shall consider, when such information is available, whether any action would be appropriate.
