HC Deb 21 October 1976 vol 917 c544W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is satisfied that the new district general hospital being constructed at Bangor is using the maximum number of local employees on the construction work, in view of the fact that up to 20th September the local employment service agency covering the area had received no requests whatsoever for supplying bricklayers to work on the scheme.

Mr. Barry Jones

82 per cent. of the work force and 58 per cent. of the staff at present employed on the contract are local people. So far the work has called for only 10 bricklayers and support workers, all of whom are local men. The number is expected to increase to about 30 as work progresses. Over 200 local people have registered with the firm for jobs as they arise. The contractors have kept the Employment Services Agency informed of the position.
