§ Mr. David Mitchellasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many applications for tax exemption certificates for sub-contractors in the building industry are waiting to be processed; and what is the maximum delay in processing applications at the present time.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon2,111 applications were awaiting examination, as at 7th October. The maximum delay before examination is not known, and will depend mainly on the extent to which there is bunching in the flow of applications to any particular tax office; but all applications are dealt with as soon as possible after receipt.
