§ 51. Mr. Hicksasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food under what conditions the building of new slaughterhouses and modernisation of existing abattoirs can qualify for either United Kingdom grant aid or FEOGA funds; and whether any changes in the existing system are envisaged.
§ Mr. StrangThe conditions applying to projects for which assistance is sought under the United Kingdom Redmeat Slaughterhouse Scheme are set out in the Notes for the Guidance of Applicants, copies of which are available in the Library of the House. Where United Kingdom grant is available for such projects they may also qualify for grants from the European Economic Community under the FEOGA Individual Project Scheme. Assistance from FEOGA funds will depend upon compliance with the requirements set out in the Directive on Intra-Community Trade in Fresh Meat (64/433 EEC as amended). No provision has yet been made for continuing the FEOGA Individual Project Scheme beyond 1977 but discussions are continuing514W on draft EEC proposals for aid to the improvement of marketing and processing of agricultural products. Any regulations resulting from these proposals is expected to include provision for assistance to slaughterhouses projects.
