§ 60. Mr. Stephen Rossasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the present levels of spending by local authorities.
§ Mr. ShorePresent indications are that local authority current expenditure excluding housing will exceed the planned level by £150 million—£200 million in 1976–77. This is a reduction from earlier estimates on current expenditure for 1976–77 and reflects the efforts made by local authorities to reduce their expenditure in accordance with the Government's expenditure plans.
