asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state, for each of the years 1973–75 inclusive in which purchases were made, the ex-works price per item paid or payable by the Ministry of Defence in respect of each of the following items, viz. Chieftain Tanks; BAC 167 Strikemasters; Short Skyvan; Westland Sea Kings; Short Tiger Cat Missiles; Britten-Norman Defenders; BAC Vigilant Missiles; HS AV 8A Harrier V; HS TAV 8A Harrier V; HS 748 Transports; Westland Sea King Mr 50 ASW helicopters; BAC 111 475 transports; Short Blowpipe AA missiles and Alvis Scorpion Armed Recce Vehicles.

The only items in question of which Ministry of Defence purchases were made in the period 1973–75 were Chieftain tanks, Vigilant Missiles, Blowpipe Missiles and Scorpion Vehicles. Purchases were also made of the RAF equivalent of the US-designated HS TAV 8A Harrier V. It is not the normal policy of Her Majesty's Government to give details of the cost of individual items of equipment purchased for the Armed Forces.
