asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total number of unemployed, expressed as a percentage of the work force in (a) Scotland, (b) Wales, (c) the North-West, (d) Merseyside, (e) Kirkby, and (f) Ormskirk.

Wales 7.6
North-West Region 7.0
Merseyside special development area 10.7
Liverpool travel-to-work area* (including Kirkby Employment office area) 11.2
Ormskirk travel-to-work area* (including Skelmersdale Employment office area) 10.6
* Unemployment rates are calculated only for the whole of a travel-to-work area and not separately for its constituent parts. They represent numbers unemployed taken as a percentage of the total number of employees (employed and unemployed).
