HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 cc155-6W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what recent representations have been made to his Department by the United Kingdom textile industry for the levying of a countervailing duty related to exports subsidies paid by the Indian Government; when such representations were made; and when a decision on the representations will be announced.

Mr. Meacher

The industry made representations to the Department of Industry on 28th September for action to be taken against the alleged subsidy, either through discussions with the Indian Government or by countervailing action. A copy of these representations was subsequently passed to my Department for consideration of the second alternative. This is being examined, and a decision will be reached as soon as possible.
