asked Her Majesty's Government:

To publish a table (expressed in pounds sterling) showing the value of:

  1. (a) the currency of each Member State of the EEC,
  2. (b) the "green" equivalent on 1st January and 1st July 1973, 1974 and 1975, and on the first of each month in 1976.

Green currencies are rates used for conversions between amounts expressed in units of account in Community agricultural arrangements and national currencies. It would not be meaningful to express them in pounds sterling.

The tables below therefore show for each Member State the green rate, the market exchange rate for its currency against the unit of account as defined for agricultural purposes, and the monetary compensatory amount percentage resulting from those green and market rates and applicable on the date indicated. No figures have been given for 1st January 1973 since the definition of the unit of account for agricultural purposes was changed on 4th June 1973;the series was therefore broken on that date. In addition, there were no green rates for the new Member States until they began to apply the Common Agricultural Policy on 1st February 1973.
