asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Chieftain tanks have been sold to Iran; and how they differ technically and mechanically from those in service with the BAOR.

As my right hon. Friend's predecessor disclosed last June, we have sold over 600 Chieftain tanks to Iran. These do not differ in any significant way from those in service with the BAOR. The Iranian Government have also ordered a large number of additional tanks, most of which will contain substantial improvements including Chobham armour.
