HC Deb 04 November 1976 vol 918 cc668-9W
18. Mr. Freud

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what measures he proposes to introduce to curtail further outbreaks of Colorado beetle.

Mr. Strang

Our procedures for preventing Colorado beetle from becoming established in this country have so far worked very well, and occurrences such as the recent finding of beetles in Dutch rye seed are rare. Our experts have been in touch with their Dutch counterparts and vigorous steps have already been taken, and will be continued next spring, to deal with all resulting risks. The causes of the occurrence are being examined to see whether any further measures are necessary.
