HC Deb 04 November 1976 vol 918 c652W
Q24. Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Prime Minister if he will transfer responsibility for the British Waterways Board from the Secretary of State for the Environment to the Secretary of State for Transport; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

No. The British Waterways Board's inland waterways are used chiefly for pleasure boating, angling, water supply and land drainage; and I propose to leave them with my right hon Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment, who is also responsible for the water industry and sport and recreation.
