asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Italians are living in the United Kingdom; and how many Italian citizens have applied for naturalisation since Great Britain joined the EEC.

According to the 1971 census the number of people born in Italy who were enumerated in Great Britain and resident in the United Kindom was 108,980.

There is no available record of the nationality of applicants according to the date on which they apply for naturalisation. Since 1st January 1971, 381 Italians have been granted naturalisation in the United Kingdom and 18 refused.
