§ Mr. Pardoeasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate for the current tax year and for 1975–76 the revenue forgone by wife's earned income relief, and the percentage of this which is at higher rates of tax.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonThe estimate for the current year is about £1,300 million and for 1975–76 about £1,080 million. In each year about 3 per cent. of the total cost represents relief in excess of relief at the basic rate of tax.
