§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will consider taking over financial responsibility for the provision and maintenance of all railway tracks and signalling systems so that road and rail transport might compete with each other on an equal footing.
§ Dr. GilbertThe transport policy consultation document suggests that road and rail users should both pay their resource costs in full except where there are social or other reasons for subsidising them. I shall be further coinsidering the issues involved in the course of my consultations.
