§ Mr. McElhoneThere were no outstanding commitments on 31st March 1976 for loans to highway authorities, and no such commitment is expected in 1976–77. Expenditure by local highway authorities on new construction and improvements of principal roads generally ceased to attract specific grant after 15th May 1975. The total estimated grant commitments outstanding on 31st March 1976 were £6.9 million, and new commitments of £1.4 million are expected to be made in 1976–77 on remaining schemes in the approved crofter counties programme.
