HC Deb 06 May 1976 vol 910 cc446-7W
24. Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the effect of the Icelandic dispute on the British fishing industry.

Mr. Peart

Until recently catches at Iceland were at the level indicated by the reply given to the hon. Member by my hon. Friend on 26th April. The activities of the Icelandic coastguard vessels in the past two weeks have severely restricted fishing opportunities for some vessels. The provision of improved naval protection is intended to create conditions in which fishing is not unduly restricted by such harassment.
