HC Deb 04 May 1976 vol 910 c301W
Miss Richardson

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if his Department is intending to contribute to the $30 million United Nations High Commission for Refugees programme for Vietnam; and, if so, what that contribution will be.

Mr. Prentice

The British Government gave £250,000 to the joint UNHCR/ UNICEF emergency programme for Indo-China and £150,000 to the UNHCR programme for refugees outside Indo-China in 1975, and we continue to make regular contributions to the UNHCR budget. We have no plans at present for making another special contribution to this UNHCR programme.

Miss Richardson

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if he will consider contributing to the World Health Organisation campaign to raise $75 million for medical aid to the Vietnamese people.

Mr. Prentice

The British Government make a regular annual contribution to the budget of the World Health Organisation. We have no plans at present for making an additional voluntary contribution to his campaign.
