HC Deb 04 May 1976 vol 910 cc332-3W
Mr. Litterick

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many adolescents under the age of 18 years in the City of Birmingham have failed to complete training courses set up with TSA sponsorship; and what proportion of the student intake to such courses this represents.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that statistics are readily available only for people under 19 years of age in the city of Birmingham. These show that four have failed to complete TSA sponsored direct training courses since January 1976; this figure represents 4.2 per cent. of the intake to such courses. Figures for young people in training with employers, or under the sponsorship of industrial training boards, for whom grants or training awards have been made available, cannot be provided for individual areas.

Mr. Litterick

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many adolescents under the age of 18 years are currently receiving training in TSA sponsored schemes.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that on 31st March 1976 2,727 people under the age of 18 years were attending TSA sponsored direct training schemes. In addition, some 21,000 young people are currently in training with employers or under the sponsorship of industrial training boards for whom premium grants, training awards and other forms of financial support have been made available by TSA through the boards.
