Mr. Giles Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many traffic wardens are required in the London metropolitan area to bring recruitment up to full strength.

*Except at Heathrow Airport, the employment of traffic wardens is included in the current restrictions imposed on local authority spending in accordance with the rate support grant settlement for 1976–77.

Mr. Giles Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the salary of a traffic warden working in the London metropolitan area (a) on joining, (b) after five years' service and (c) after 10 years' service.

Dr. Summerskill

The annual salary is £1,920 on joining, £2,000 after one year, £2,060 after two years and £2,140 from three years onwards. London weighting of £465 a year (inner) and £275 a year (outer) is payable in addition. A supplement of £6 a week is to be paid from 1st July 1976.
