HC Deb 04 May 1976 vol 910 cc337-8W
Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons are currently unemployed in the area of the borough of Gosport, at the latest convenient date, together with the comparable number for the similar date during each of the preceding five years.

Mr. Golding

The following table shows the numbers registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Gosport Employment Office:

April 1971 494

Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons are curently unemployed in the area of the borough of Gosport, at the latest convenient date, with a recorded physical or mental disability, together with the comparable number for the similar date during each of the preceding five years.

Mr. Golding

The information below relates to unemployed registered disabled people in April each year in the Gosport employment office area.

Classified as physically disabled Classified as mentally disabled
1971 46 7
1972 34 1
1973 35 6
1974 29 7
1975 34 11
1976 49 11

Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons are currently unemployed in the area of the borough of Gosport, at the latest convenient date, who are below the age of 18 years, together with the comparable number for the similar date during each of the preceding five years.

Mr. Golding

I regret that the information is not available in the form requested because statistics of unemployed young people in Gosport are included in, but not distinguishable from, statistics concerning the wider area served by the Fareham careers service. Montly statistics of the unemployed no longer distinguish between those under age 18 years or 18 years and over, but a monthly count is now made of the number of teenagers—that is, under 20 years of age—unemployed. The number of these in the Fareham careers service area on 8th April was 386. Comparable figures were not collected in previous years.
