asked the Secretary of State for Wales what has been the total expenditure to date since the inauguration of the derelict land clearance programme; and how much of this money has been spent in South Wales and in North Wales, respectively.

Between November 1966, when the Derelict Land Unit was established in the Welsh Office, and January 1976, when the functions of the unit were transferred to the Welsh Development Agency, 284 schemes, costing £24,069 million, were approved for grant in aid. The total cost of schemes approved in each county in Wales during that period is given in the following table:
