§ Mr. Grimondasked the Minister for the Civil Service what reductions are planned in the number of civil servants in London after the setting up of the Scottish Assembly.
§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisAlmost all the functions which the Government propose to devolve to the Scottish Assembly are already administered by the Scottish Office in Scotland. For this reason I would not expect any significant savings to accrue in London as a consequence of setting up the Assembly.
§ Mr. Grimondasked the Minister for the Civil Service how many civil servants will be employed in Edinburgh after the setting up of the Scottish Assembly.
§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisOn 1st April 1976 there were 10,747 non-industrial and industrial civil servants in the Scottish Office of whom over 50 per cent. 227W were located in Edinburgh. The current estimate is that about 1,000 extra staff will be needed in Scotland as a result of devolution of which about 200 will be for the Assembly itself.
