§ Mr. Cordle
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will introduce appropriate legislation to amend the Rent Acts 1968 and 1974 so as to ensure that the level of private rents can be 226W increased annually in line with any increase in the cost of living;
(2) if, in view of the need to encourage private investment in the provision of housing accommodation available for rental purposes, he will introduce appropriate legislation to amend the Rent Acts 1968 and 1974 so as to relate the level of the fair rent to a specified return on the capital value of the property.
§ Mr. Freeson
The method of fixing rents for properties in the privately rented sector is one of the matters to be examined in the review of the Rent Acts, which is being undertaken in my Department.
