Mr. Peter Walker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage increase in total public expenditure in 1976–77 will take place as a result of the package of measures announced on 12th February 1976.

Mr. Joel Barnett

The expenditure arising from the measures announced on 12th February 1976 will be accommodated from the contingency reserve. The measures will therefore not necessitate any addition to the estimate of total public expenditure in 1976–77 given in Cmnd. 6393.
