§ Mr. MeacherThere are some 11,500 public appointments within the patronage of the Secretary of State for Social Services. Of these about 3,400 carry a salary or fee. The salaries range from £1,000 to £11,000 a year and the fees from £6.30112W to £50 per day. The total emoluments amount to about £2½ million. Comparable figures for 1970 are not available and cannot be produced without disproportionate cost to public funds.
