§ Mr. Cormackasked the Secretary of State for Energy how many civil servants were employed within his Department on 31st December 1975; how many of these worked in London and how many in the provinces; what was the total annual cost of employing them in 1975; and how this compared with the annual wages and salaries bill for 1974.
§ Mr. EadieThe number of civil servants employed in my Department on 31st December 1975 was 1,374; 1,097 in 49W London and 277 in the provinces. The annual salary cost for 1975–76 is approximately £6.3 million. It is not possible to make a comparison with 1974–75 because during that period the Department still relied on Department of Industry for some services and 683 staff were transferred to the Health and Safety Executive.
