§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what guidance is given to education authorities in determining the maximum capacities of classrooms as they are required to do under Regulation 8 of the Schools General (Scotland) Regulations 1975; and, if none, what standards or what criteria are available to authorities to enable them to make this determination.
§ Mr. William RossGiven modern developments in the curriculum and in school building, and the wide variety of uses to which a room may be put, it must be left to education authorities to decide in the light of the circumstances how many pupils can be suitably accommodated in a particular area for a particular form of instruction. I understand, however, that guidelines have been drawn up by the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland.
